Crazy for You is my bestselling book
As soon as the book released, it took off. People were talking about it on various reader groups. I saw a lot of comments like—which book is the one where a contractor renovates a single mom's bed and breakfast?
It was heartwarming when Nolan fell for Juliana and her adorable twin girls. Although some readers said the twins stole a few scenes. But I think the reason it connected with readers was because one of the little girls, Charlie, has selective mutism. It's an anxiety condition where she doesn't speak to certain people.
I wrote the book when my son was diagnosed. The treatment is to expose him to people, and situations to see if he'll feel comfortable talking. He was diagnosed during Covid, so the doctors weren't treating anyone in person, and he wasn't around other people.
I shared with my newsletter how he wouldn't speak in preschool when it opened up again, and it was a big deal when he stood in front of the room and held the flag during the pledge of allegiance. In kindergarten, he finally spoke to his teacher and a few friends. About three-quarters of the way through the year, he read part of the pledge of allegiance on the school news.

Nolan and Juliana's story is special to me because it's personal. There is a lot of misunderstanding around selective mutism because these kids can physically talk but won't.
Every year, we do all of the things we're supposed to do to get him used to a new room, teacher, and kids. It takes him a bit to warm-up. I almost forget his has the condition until we're starting something new, like a sport, or seeing someone we haven't in a while.
